Métro-Carrelage

Concept for RATP, Spatial & Sound Design

  1. Since 1900, when crickets living down by the tracks of the Parisian metro could be heard, the now iconic white bevelled tiles have lined its stations walls and platforms. Is it possible to create a new sound identity for the underground?

  2. The current 14 lines, which are already identifiable by colour, are each designated their own sound. Corridors retro-fitted with ceramic tiles produce sound passively, using the winds that rush through them.
